If you have been out searching for CBD oil you have most likely come across the term “cannabis oil” as well. What is cannabis oil and what is CBD oil? What is the difference between the two and which one of these do you need?
Cannabis oil is oil extracted from cannabis plants. It contains all the cannabinoids that every cannabis plant is known to have. That is, THC, CBD, other cannabinoids such as cannabigerol and cannabivarin, as well as plant vitamins, terpenes, and flavonoids. CBD, on the other hand is oil extract from cannabis plants or hemp plants that has been purified to remain with CBD only. In some cases, CBD oil may contain other cannabinoids apart from THC, as well as terpenes and flavonoids. CBD oil from hemp plants, however, contains almost zero THC.
Are both CBD oil and cannabis oil legal? Legality differs for these two essential oils. Cannabis oil is only legal in jurisdictions where cannabis is legal for recreational use, or where it’s legal for medicinal use and you have a medical marijuana card. CBD oil from hemp oil, however, is legal everywhere because hemp is not classified as a controlled substance. Hemp oil only contains about 0.2% THC and legal minimum is 0.3%. So you can buy and use CBD hemp oil from anywhere.
Can you get addicted to oil from cannabis plants? Many people do not know this but cannabis can get addictive. This is referred to as marijuana use disorder. Marijuana addicts often cannot go without taking the drug, they often take marijuana just to stay functional, and they cannot have a good time without taking some. Of the two oils, cannabis oil is the addictive one. This is largely in part due to the THC which is the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis – the ingredient that gets one ‘high’. CBD oil does not contain THC and is therefore not addictive; you can take it daily for weeks and not acquire any dependency or withdrawal symptoms.
Does oil from marijuana affect the user’s ability to function? Cannabis oil has the same effects as cannabis taken in other forms, e.g. edibles or smoking. It will get you high. In fact, cannabis oil has more potency than its smoked or eaten varieties. So you cannot drive or perform certain functions when under the influence of cannabis oil. However, CBD oil contains negligible or no THC so it does not get you high and it does not affect your ability to functional normally. If anything, CBD oil improves mood and reduces stress. In contrast to cannabis oil, it even improves motor functions and sharpens concentration, a factor that has seen it start to get applications in sports activities such as hunting.
Cannabis oil and CBD oil have most of the same health benefits. They include reducing anxiety and depression, improving mood, improving appetite, improving sleep, reducing pain and inflammation, treating glaucoma, helping with nausea and seizures, abating cancerous cell growths, and more. Both cannabis oil and CBD oil are used actively for medical purposes. The difference is you do need a medical card for cannabis oil and it will get you high.
